The World at a Glance

Voxana is a world of two continents separated by a vast ocean, twelve silent gods behind a metaphysical barrier, and a history that no living mortal fully remembers. Beneath its surface lies a truth that only a handful of beings in the world have ever known, and most of those are long dead.

The Shape of Reality

All of existence in Voxana originates from the Loom, a formless metaphysical construct that spins the threads of reality. The Loom is not a god and is not sentient, but it is alive with pattern and resonance. From its tensions and contradictions emerged twelve conscious threads that became the Twelve Gods of Voxana, each a manifestation of a cosmic truth: death, life, structure, passion, darkness, light, creativity, conflict, love, memory, depth, and balance.

The Loom spins multiple layers of existence, called Weaves. The Material Weave is the mortal realm where most adventures take place. Beyond it lie the Feyweave, six Elemental Weaves, the Echo Weave, and the sealed Divine Weave where the gods now reside. Where these Weaves fray or tear, the Fray bleeds through, bringing impossible beings, rotting logic, and madness.

Two Continents, One Broken History

The world was once a single landmass called Etherea, with the great city of Runeswick at its heart. A cataclysm known as the Split tore Etherea in two, creating the western continent of Volaxia and the eastern continent of Osan. The Great Sea filled the rift between them. Even Runeswick was divided: its western half still stands as the capital of Volaxia, while its eastern remnant became part of Osan’s landscape.

Volaxia is a continent of fertile valleys, ancient forests, frozen northern wilds, and a thriving monarchy centered on Runeswick. Its major trade routes, the Golden Road running north–south and the Silverway running east–west, converge at the Gilded Crossroads in the heart of Crownheart Vale.

Osan is a continent of contrasts: the dwarven stronghold of Nin’Durahl carved into its mountain ranges, the golden southern shores, the vast Grand Desert, and a government built around the Council of Lords rather than a single crown.

The Great Sea both divides and connects the continents. Trade, migration, and conflict flow across its waters, and island systems scattered in the rift remain largely unexplored.

Silent Gods and a Forgotten War

The Twelve Gods once walked openly among mortals during an era known as the Age of Unity. Recognizing that their direct presence was eroding mortal free will, they agreed to step back. This agreement, called the Divine Concord, led them to weave the Divine Veil, a metaphysical barrier between the divine and mortal realms. Since then, the gods have communicated only through dreams, miracles, omens, and chosen champions.

What the people of Voxana do not know is that the gods broke the Concord once. A mortal named Erruuth the Deceiver attempted to pierce the Divine Veil and claim godhood for himself, causing the Split and triggering a five-hundred-year conflict known as the Divine War. The gods re-emerged from behind the Veil to fight him, empowering a secret order called the Arcanum Divinorum to forge artifacts of immense power: the Arcane Stones. Erruuth was ultimately banished to a realm of non-existence, the Arcane Stones shattered, and their fragments scattered across the world, eventually becoming the mineral known as Glowstone.

After the war, the last surviving member of the Arcanum Divinorum, a dwarf named Galmir Lothiren, made an extraordinary decision. He surgically erased the Divine War from mortal memory: Erruuth, the Arcane Stones, the Arcanum itself, and the gods’ return. In the world’s collective memory, the Split was simply a catastrophic natural disaster, and the gods have been silent since the Concord. Galmir then founded the Elder Sage Council to steward magic in the Arcanum’s absence, and finally erased his own memories, living out his remaining years as a seemingly ordinary dwarf sage.

DM Truth: The Central Mystery

The gap between what the world believes and what actually happened is the engine that drives Voxana’s deepest stories. Players will encounter a world where the gods are silent, where Glowstone is believed to be a natural mineral, and where the Split has no known cause. Every discovery that brings them closer to the truth should feel like pulling on a thread that unravels a thousand years of carefully constructed forgetting.

The Present Day

Roughly one thousand years have passed since the Divine War’s end. Volaxia is governed by the Runeswick monarchy. Osan is governed by the Council of Lords. Trade flows across the Great Sea. The Elder Sage Council, unknowing inheritors of the Arcanum Divinorum’s legacy, oversees magical practice from their seats in the great cities.

And something has changed.

All Glowstone across Voxana has reactivated. For a millennium, the fragments of the shattered Arcane Stones were inert, a pretty mineral used in jewelry and decoration. Now they glow brightly and crackle with magical energy. No one alive understands why. But the world is beginning to pay attention.
