Southwest of the central mountains, past the last edges of arable land, the Blistering Swamp spreads across a vast lowland basin. It is hot, humid, and actively hostile to travelers. The swamp is a labyrinth of stagnant waterways, dense vegetation, biting insects, and creatures adapted to an environment that wants to kill everything that enters it.
No legitimate settlements exist in the Blistering Swamp. It is home to trolls, swamp-dwelling creatures, and, according to persistent rumor, the Obsidian Brotherhood—a criminal organization that uses the swamp’s impassability as its primary defense. The Brotherhood’s existence is suspected by authorities in Runeswick but has never been confirmed, largely because anyone sent to investigate the swamp tends not to come back with useful information.

A fugitive wanted by the Runeswick crown has fled into the swamp. The reward is substantial. The swamp is worse.
A rare alchemical ingredient grows only in the deepest parts of the Blistering Swamp. A wealthy patron in Duskfall needs it and is willing to pay adventurers very well—because the last three groups they hired never returned.
