Beyond the common races, Voxana is home to peoples who are rarely encountered but unmistakable when they are. These are the beastfolk, the elementally touched, and the truly unusual—races whose presence in a community is notable enough to turn heads but not so strange as to cause alarm. Voxana’s diversity extends further than most travelers realize.
These peoples have deep roots in Voxana. The Arcanum Divinorum itself included a loxodon abjurationist named Thrumm Ironhide and a tortle necromancer named Mara Shellwise among its eight members—proof that even in the world’s most consequential institutions, the rare peoples have always had a place.
Loxodon
Elephant-folk of immense physical presence and renowned patience. Loxodon are exceedingly rare on Voxana but deeply respected wherever they appear. Their cultural traditions emphasize memory, community, and the long view—a loxodon thinks in generations, not years. They are found most often in scholarly communities, druidic circles, and wherever heavy labor meets careful thought. Thrumm Ironhide’s role as the Arcanum’s abjuration master is the most famous loxodon in Voxanan history, though the world no longer remembers his name.
Leonin
Lion-folk of pride, honor, and formidable physical prowess. Leonin on Voxana are nomadic by tradition, traveling in family prides that follow trade routes and seasonal patterns. They are most commonly encountered on the savannahs near Tinker Town, in the transitional regions of Shadowcross Junction, and along the caravan routes of the Central Heartland. Leonin culture values personal honor, martial skill, and the bonds of family above all else. A leonin’s word is treated as binding, and the rare leonin who breaks an oath is cast out from their pride entirely.
Tortle
Turtle-folk of quiet wisdom and remarkable resilience. Tortles are solitary travelers by nature, often spending years wandering Voxana before settling—if they settle at all. They are found in coastal communities, river towns, and the occasional inland settlement that happens to suit a tortle’s peculiar sense of home. Tortle craftsmanship, when they choose to practice it, is deliberate and beautiful. Mara Shellwise’s mastery of necromancy within the Arcanum Divinorum demonstrated that tortles approach even the darkest magics with a philosophical calm that other races find either reassuring or deeply unsettling.
Tabaxi
Cat-folk driven by curiosity and wanderlust. Tabaxi are travelers, storytellers, and collectors of experiences. They are found throughout Voxana, rarely staying in one place long enough to establish permanent communities. Tabaxi are disproportionately represented among traveling merchants, bards, and—less officially—the kind of people who know things that other people would prefer remained unknown. A tabaxi in a city has either just arrived or is about to leave, and the stories they carry are worth the price of a meal and a bed.
Kenku
Raven-folk of mimicry and shadow. Kenku exist on the margins of Voxanan society—not outcast, but not fully integrated either. Their inability to create original speech, relying instead on mimicked sounds, makes social interaction challenging, and kenku communities tend to be small and insular. They are found in urban environments where their talents for observation, stealth, and precision are valued. Kenku make excellent scouts, archivists, and—in less savory circles—spies.
Firbolg
Gentle giants with deep connections to the natural world. Firbolg are found in the forested regions of both continents—the Frostpine Forest, the Glimmerwood, the Amber Woods, and the Eldenwood. They live in small, isolated communities and interact with other races cautiously but not hostilely. Firbolg druids are among the most skilled natural magic practitioners on Voxana, and druidic circles that include firbolg members benefit from their intuitive understanding of ecosystem and season.
Changelings
Shapeshifters who walk among other races undetected. Changelings are, by nature, impossible to count. They exist on Voxana in unknown numbers, adopting identities that suit their purposes and discarding them when they no longer serve. In cosmopolitan cities, changelings are an open secret—acknowledged to exist, impossible to reliably identify, and tolerated with the kind of resigned acceptance that comes from knowing you cannot prevent what you cannot detect.
Other Rare Peoples
Aarakocra, goliaths, lizardfolk, minotaurs, and other uncommon races exist on Voxana in small numbers. Their presence is a reminder that the world is larger and stranger than any single community’s experience can encompass. Individual DMs are encouraged to include any race that serves their campaign—Voxana’s diversity is a feature, not a limitation, and the post-Split intermixing provides a ready-made justification for any race appearing in any location.
