The Glowstone Reactivation

The Glowstone reactivation is the most visible symptom of the underlying crisis, and the one most likely to draw adventurers into the larger mystery. Every piece of Glowstone on Voxana—green, faintly luminescent, and until recently considered an ordinary mineral—has awakened. The energy is not dramatic. It is not explosive. But it is unmistakable, and its effects are spreading.

What the World Knows

Glowstone has gotten brighter and started emitting detectable arcane energy. People who own Glowstone items are experiencing minor unexplained phenomena: warmth, vivid dreams, subtle object movement, flickering lights. The Jade River glows more intensely. Scholars are studying it. Governments are regulating it. The Merchant Houses are profiting from it. No one knows why it happened.

What the DM Knows

The Cult of the Veiled One’s ritual at the First Gate triggered the reactivation. The Glowstone fragments are shards of the Arcane Stones that imprisoned Erruuth. They are responding to the disturbance in his prison—an alarm system designed by the Arcanum Divinorum that no one alive knows how to read. The green coloring is itself a scar: Erruuth’s necrotic energies corrupted the fragments when they shattered, replacing their original school-specific colors with a uniform green. The necrotic trace may itself be active now that the fragments have reawakened, though no detrimental effects have been observed.

What Could Happen Next

The reactivation is currently stable but not static. If additional gates are opened, the Glowstone’s energy will increase. The faint phenomena—warm rings, vivid dreams, flickering—will intensify. At some threshold, the effects will cross from unsettling to dangerous: Glowstone jewelry that causes burns, deposits that distort nearby spellcasting, water sources saturated with arcane energy that affects those who drink it. The escalation is gradual and DM-controlled, but the trajectory is clear: the more the prison weakens, the louder the alarm becomes.
