Galmir’s Erased Memory

Galmir Lothiren is a 280-year-old dwarf wizard, Elder Sage of Divination, based in Nin’Durahl. He is respected, trusted, and operates as an advisor to King Udrek Kegjaw. He maintains the most extensive library on Osan. He has no idea that he is the last surviving member of the Arcanum Divinorum.

After the Divine War, Galmir—the only Arcanum member to survive—made a series of decisions that shaped the present world. He surgically erased the Divine War from mortal memory: Erruuth, the Arcane Stones, the Arcanum Divinorum, the gods’ re-emergence, and the entire five hundred years of conflict. In the modified memory, the gods never returned after the Concord, and the Split was a catastrophic natural disaster of unknown cause. Galmir then founded the Elder Sage Council to steward magic in the war’s aftermath, designed its racial diversity to mirror the Arcanum’s original composition, and finally erased his own memories—severing his connection to everything he had been and everything he had done.

Galmir lives as an ordinary sage. He is extraordinary by any normal standard—a divination master of unmatched skill—but he has no access to the knowledge that would make him the most important person on Voxana. His journal, hidden in the Sunstone Temple, records his decisions and his reasons. His memories, locked behind magical barriers of his own construction, may not be permanently destroyed—divination magic of sufficient power, or the right trigger, could potentially restore them. What happens when—or if—Galmir remembers is one of the most consequential narrative moments available in any Voxana campaign.

Using Galmir’s Memory

Galmir’s memory restoration is a nuclear option—the moment the world’s history rewrites itself. DMs should deploy it carefully. Possible triggers: exposure to the Sunstone Prism, contact with a reactivated Arcane Stone fragment that resonates with divination magic, reading his own journal, or the opening of a specific gate whose energy reaches him through the Loom. When Galmir remembers, he becomes the only living person who understands why the world is breaking—and the only person who might know how to fix it.

Alternatively, Galmir’s memories may be incomplete, corrupted by time, or deliberately sabotaged by his own magic as a failsafe. A Galmir who remembers fragments but not the whole picture is a powerful NPC ally who is also a tragic figure—a man who destroyed his own identity to save the world and now cannot fully recover what he lost.
