The Firefly Brigade

The Firefly Brigade is Voxana’s preeminent adventuring institution—a guild founded roughly six hundred years ago by veteran adventurers who saw the need for an organized, principled response to the threats that neither armies nor city guards could handle. Headquartered in the purpose-built settlement of Guildspire on the Crystal River, the Brigade operates as stabilizers, explorers, defenders of the vulnerable, and stewards of knowledge.

The Brigade’s authority is rooted in deeds, not decree. They have no political power, no territorial claims, and no formal relationship with any government beyond cooperative agreements. Their reputation is their currency: the Brigade is trusted because it has earned that trust repeatedly, and it maintains that trust by holding its members to operational standards that are taken seriously.

Tenets: Guide. Protect. Explore. Steward Knowledge Responsibly. These are not slogans—they are operational standards that shape what the Brigade accepts as a contract, what it refuses, and how it responds to failure.

Ranks: Lantern Bearers (recruits), Lightkeepers (leaders), Flamewardens (elite operatives with discretionary authority), and The Radiant (guildmaster—currently Thrain Stonefist). Advancement is based on demonstrated competence and character, not seniority.

The Brigade maintains outposts across the explored world. These function as localized guild nodes—handling contracts, providing limited support, and reporting intelligence—but they are lanterns, not armies. Outposts do not govern and do not automatically resolve major threats. Each outpost is constrained enough that adventurers still matter.
